Nutrition plays an essential role after neutering

Why is my neutered cat more prone to weight gain?

Neutering can predispose your cat to weight gain and a risk that is twice as high compared to entire cats. This can be explained by the occurring hormonal changes after neutering and lead to a lower energy requirement and changes in eating behavior. And, if you do not modify the way in which you feed them post-neutering, the calorie intake will exceed energy expenditure leading to weight gain. Carbohydrates are the main contributor to weight gain after neutering.

Weight matters!

Keeping pets at their ideal weight can be a challenge, but it’s really important for their long-term health and well-being. Experts agree that pets who are maintained at their ideal weight throughout their life will live healthier and longer!

Being overweight / obese increases the risk of your cat developing a range of other conditions and diseases such as: Diabetes, Joint problems, Cardio respiratory difficulties, Urinary troubles, etc.

It is therefore essential and necessary to adapt your cat’s nutrition, once neutered. You can find here several advices designed for neutered cats.
